And I'm married to a Turk born in Hackney! Her family are a mixture of Bulgarian and Cypriot Turks. Saying that my grandparents and great grandparents are Jamaican, Panamanian Sephardic Jews, Polish Jews, Dutch Jews, Irish and apparently English as well. Choosing which nation to play football for was only hampered by the fact I'm a poor footballer.
It helped, not hampered!
Did you know you could claim Spanish or Portuguese citizenship in (belated) recompense for the 15th Century expulsion of Jews from Iberia?

I am, but seems an odd bounce. Strangely Sephardic Jews are offered Spanish citizenship but not the descendants of expelled Muslims.

You are what, claiming?
I expect it's because the Moors were expelled through warfare. Also, presumably far more difficult to prove than those expelled to a Spanish colony. I expect you know Roman Abramovich is one but did you know that Peter Sellers was also?

I am aware that I can claim. All Sephardic Jewish descendants can claim. Most Moors were expelled at the same time as the Jews during the inquisition. The Muslim population were not an army, they had lived there for over 700 years. Spain had been a very multi cultural society. El Cid's army was predominantly Muslim, whilst the Moors army may have been predominantly Christian. I am unaware if Hindus or Buddhists featured.

The Jews weren't expelled to Spanish colonies. The Alhambra decree was 1492, the year Columbus set off for the New World. Prior to that a lot of Jews had already converted following massacres and continued attacks.

One reason it's easier to grant Sephardic Jews citizenship is the traceable surnames.
