[Drinking] Man City pub?

Hi, thanks for the advice before the Liverpool game, great to meet folks at a couple places you recommended. I'm now making my first trip to the Etihad (well, Manchester full stop!), and looking for some tips on which pubs to try before or after the game. Any help appreciated!

Issue with Manchester is that when you get off the train, there are loads of pubs but they're all a bit crap.

Picadilly Tavern or the wetherspoons in picadilly gardens are often the most popular.

Another good option is the old wellington next to exchange square which is conveniently right next to the football museum (if you fancy looking around). Only issue with this one is it's on the wrong tram line for the etihad but only a 10 minute walk to the correct one.

Most the pubs around etihad are home fans only but you can drink in northern quarter / ancoats on the way up from the station. The waldorf, or any on oldham street are good or if you like a craft beer, severn brothers in ancoats square.

As we get nearer the day it might come out that everyone picks a set pub, but from past experience of city and united, everyone's a bit scattered

Northern Quarter is the correct answer. Lots of good pubs with the added bonus that it's on the easterly side of the city centre and about a 25-30 min walk to the Etihad.

May have convinced her indoors to come to Manchester, mainly because we are in Preston Friday on business.
So where is the best area to stay in Manchester for a pint Friday night and access to transport Saturday. I'll have a small van so secure parking is best.
