My son wants to get

1. A Hamster
2. A snake
3. A lizard
4. A terantula
5. Fish Acquarium

and then he wonders when I say no

Don't mind the fish and he already has two canaries which are pretty cute

Simple;

feed the fish to the canaries, the canaries to the tarantula.
feed the hamster to the snake.
Pit the snake against the tarantula.

chances are you will be left with one very easy to keep, very clean, and harmless lizard. They even eat bugs for you (not sprayed ones though, look after this nice pet) and will die or be set free soon after your son loses interest in looking after it.

Reformed mother signing in. Lizard is actually quite cute
and I even held it. Doesn't do much though and there is certainly more noise from its live food - crickets. I still draw the line at snakes and rats.

Don't think I would ever have a hamster, but that tabby cat looks like nobody would mess with him/her, might be the solution for BAGs' rat infestation.
