as 10cc say, not in hove
i was 3 years old in 1966 and don't remember a thing.

1970 is a memory, especially the quarter final loss to germany.

1974 was a washout.

1978: i watched virtually every single match live (late at night from argentina) or on tape.

what was your fisrt world cup?

1982 was the first one I followed properly. I dont remember much about 78 as I was 6 at the time...

I watched the England games in 82 and 86, but 1990 was the first one I really got into. Roger Milla's dancing, Lineker's penalties, Gazza's tears and who could forget the mess my mates made of my mums house, it smelt of sick for days afterwards. Ahh happy memories.

1978 was the first I can remember, I can remember looking forward to Scotland playing  :nono: and then what happened :lolol: , the Holland game was the best though with Archie's goal and the comeback that never happened.

England lost to West Germany in Mexico four days after I was born in 1970. I've been a bit confused ever since. My folks were visiting me and my mum in hospital at the time, I'm told.

But Argentina in 1978 was the first one that registered really, all that ticker tape.

Vaguely remember 1962 when I was 5. Can't say I followed it, just remember my Dad and Grandad talking about it. Also remember the older big boys playing in the park and pretending to be international footballers.

1966 I remember as if it were yesterday. Well, a week ago last Tuesday anyway.

I vaguely remember 82 but remember much better 86 and collected the panini stickers for this one which adds to the interest as a kid of 11.

Dandyman

In London village.
Also aged 3 in 1966. Vague memory of 1970 (was that when they had the Esso tokens ?) and clear memory of the awfulness of the wonderful Dutch losing to the evil Hun in 1974.

I vaguely remember 1990 because of my usually not very interested in sport dad getting a bigger TV for it and MAKING the entire family watch it. :D

I only remember the Ireland games in any way whatsoever although I know he and my brother watched them all, even the ones that weren't being shown in the UK or Ireland by satellite from Germany or Scandinavia. I still have one of those satellite dishes working now...

I was only 4 when the 86 world cup was on so can't remember anything. Italia 90 for me, Platt last minute volley against Belgium, that penalty fest against Cameroon and those diving Germans

Oh and Roger Milla.

1966 and couldn't believe the fuss when England won: I just thought that was the natural order of things.

How little I knew.

I was 7 during the 1986 World Cup so that's when I had my first memories of the tournament. I vaguely remember watching France knock out Italy in the second round, I think this is the first football match I ever saw (or at least remember seeing).

Whilst I was technically here for 78 & 82 I wasn't very old.

1986 was when the wall chart came out!

1966 I watched the final and some other bits - but the first one that I really took an interest and followed in was 1970. I don't think I have recovered fully from the trauma of losing to West Germany.

In 1966 I watched the final - but ours was not a football household.

1966 - the final was the first football match that I watched from beginning to end. And I remember having a cup of tea in a light green melaware cup and saucer at half time.

Quite the grown-up seven year-old I was.

Pre ten years old I wasn't a football crazy kid, so The first I watched with any interest was 1978 - but was crazy about 1982 'cos England were in it. Robson 16 seconds versus France!!!!

Chile 62, but I was less than a year old then. Shame really, as the infamous Chile v Dago match was then.

The 66 q/f against the Argies was the first I remember anything about.
