Mike Bailey managed to reduce the average crowd by about 10,000 with his brand of 'exciting' football.:nono:

And our highest position ever.

Ive only followed the albion since 1991 so I wouldnt know anyone before Lloyd.

But IMHO id say that mr Steve Gritt is the best Albion manager I have seen.

With Mickey Adams a very close second. We were expected to do well that season under adams(taking nothing away from him) as he bulit a legendary side, but when Gritt came in no-one gave us a hope of staying up. 12 points adrift in october and he saved us, with all the off field problems aswell.

Steve Gritt=

Cant believe Steve Coppell hs got so many votes.

In London village.
Mullery (the first time). In todays terms he took us from League 1 (Division 3) to the Premiership (Division 1).

My all time favourite weas Billy Lane but that was long before 1974.

Since then it has to be Mullery first time no other manger gets anywhere near him. The 2nd time I belive he was used by the Blooms to get Barry Lloyd in, who was then manager of Worthing and I believe Ray Bloom was Chairman or had a big influence and wanted BL here.

Taylor 1.

No contest for me, as he created an Albion with higher quality and aspirations, out of traditional and perrennial non-achieving 3rd Division 'Southern-league' lot - once a place for lesser-talent cloggers and codgers.
Mullery completely inherited the potential-greatness legacy from Taylor. Not to underestimate how he dealt with what he got, as he became an Albion legend from his half-time gee-ups, his deployment of players, and the respect he himself had as a WC winning veteran player.

Yes, we have had some excellent managers who made enigmatic impressions on our club, but for me it was Peter Taylor 1st that founded the team of hope and (a little) glory.

R.I.P., and thanks
Mullery wasn't a World Cup winning player !!:nono:
