Jeez, no way are you a JCL if you're first game was when you were 4! I didn't go to my first Brighton game until I was 8.
My first Albion v Palace game was 1975, 1-0 win at Selhurst. It an early season midweek game and it was before the rivalry had really started (certainly before it became really intense) and there weren't that many Brighton there, again certainly not compared to later years. It was also my first Brighton away game.
It was also weird as it was the first time I'd been to Selhurst Park as an away fan, previously I'd always supported Palace. I sat in the Palace seats with my Dad who was a little bit miffed that despite his entreaties I now supported Brighton and Sussex as opposed to Palace and Surrey.
2-0 in 1976. Sammy Morgan 2 great goals, 33000+ gate.

1-1 draw at Selhurst in the old second division when Gerry Ryan had his career ended by Henry Hughton in 1985 (?). Not sure who scored our goal but could have been a free kick from Danny Wilson. I clearly remember Alan Biley missing a sitter though. Strange match as my uncle who was a Palace fan took me in the Palace seats. I was only 15 but remember getting a few menacing stares when I celebrated our goal.

Actually now I come to think of it I did go to a preseason friendly at Selhurst sometime in the mid 80s, which could have been my first. Think it was 0-0 but really can't recall much about the game. I do clearly remember one Brighton fan with a Union Jack wrapped round his waist with Palace Crap written on it. Can any anoraks help out? I doubt we would have played Palace that much in preseason friendlies in those days

Just done a bit of digging round on the net and Martin Keown said Hughton's tackle on Gerry was the worst he has ever seen
In my early days at Aston Villa, I was on the receiving end of a terrible tackle from Billy Whitehurst. We were going for a 50-50 ball and then, all of a sudden, he eased off so I would get there first. I did and then he clattered into me to make his mark. I had
tramlines all down my leg, my shinpad snapped and I was lucky not to break a leg.
I had to miss international week because of it. The worst tackle I’ve seen, though, was
when I was 19 at Brighton and Crystal Palace’s Henry Hughton — Chris’ brother —
went over the top on Gerry Ryan and broke a leg. There were bones hanging out all over the place and, honest to God, nobody wanted to carry on with the game.

Same here. 33,000 on a magical for a kid floodlit night. Crammed in on the chicken run.
I remember the bad losers were given the South Stand and threw 2 lit smoke bombs on to the pitch game causing a small delay.
Their 'star' player was alleged to be Peter Taylor the winger, but our fullback, was it Wilson?, did a great job.

Boxing day 1979, I'm pretty sure that was 3-0 to the Albion. It was my first Palace experience.

Mine was the boxing day 1979 at the Goldstone. I was 11 and my Dad took me in the family enclosure (East Terrace, south) and I hardly watched the match as there was so much fighting in the North Stand kicking off all the way through the match. Crazy days and I was hooked and always understood the rivalry with Palace from then on and the "Hark now hear, the Brighton sing, the Palace run away (again) and we will fight, forever more, because of Boxing Day" always made sense because it was a day that lives strongly in the memory.

Mine too I was stood next to a young Albion fan who was wearing a Cardigan and at half time got a pipe out !! Also recall skinheads getting dragged out the Palace stand by the police and escorted round the ground and in front of the Albion fans who started throwing stuff at them.
