Half your age and add 7 is indeed the rule.

I am 24, (24/2)+7 = 19.

Therefore 19 is the limit of 'acceptability'. Is there such a rule of thumb for older partners? I tend to try and avoid anyone more than 2 years older than me.

I would assume you reverse the calculation i.e. minus 7 from your age and then double it: (24-7)*2 = 34

Age, above legal of course, has never really crossed my mind I've normally applied the pulse, taxi fare and reasonably sane rule ... it's worked fairly well. Happily married now so rule not needed.
