Off for a short BREAK in January and am looking at EGYPT. I'm sure the globe-trotting sages of NSC can provide some hotel advice.

4 of us - 2 children aged 10 & 8
Not interested in the full DIVING thing, but would do a bit of SNORKELLING
Is all inclusive the way forward?

Any TIPS?

Personally, when I went, I went all inclusive as it wasn't much difference in price and helped for being around the pool all day.

However, if you do fancy a change of scenery, Na'ama bay is cheap (Hard Rock Cafe was about £7 a main.)

We booked with Thomson and was pretty decent, think we stayed at one of the Hiltons.

With kids of that age All Inclusive is definitely the way to go.

Just got back from the Blue Reef Oasis Resort and Spa - snorkkelling straight off the beach. You can even paddle amongst the fish !

Main restaurants serve pretty decent food - some cracking curries strangely.

Downsides - I think you HAVE to go with Thomson, Italian and Fish restaurants are crap.

I would highly recommend it though.

EDIT - AI is definitely the way to go with kids. If they get something they don't like to eat then just leave it and go and get something else !

We went to the best snorkelling hotel, I think it was the Hilton.
You walk out across the coral on a jetty, then jump in and you're instantly swimming next to a huge wall of coral, with every bit of marine life under the sun.

I kept being in the water so long I came out with motion sickness.

Just got back this morning from TABA HEIGHTS,bloody awsome holiday and diffrent from the usual shite like sharm el sheikh which is far to commercialised.Amazing coach trip from the airport through the mountains and desert then through the threeway border,israel,jordon then of cause taba eygpt.

Even better you can see jordan and saudi arabia clearly from the beach,and at night the bright border lights.
Great snorkeling aswel

Just got back this morning from TABA,bloody awsome holiday and diffrent from the usual shite like sharm el sheikh which is far to commercialised.Amazing coach trip from the airport through the mountains and desert then through the threeway border,israel,jordon then of cause taba eygpt.

Even better you can see jordan and saudi arabia clearly from the beach,and at night the bright border lights.

Wasn't too expensive, food and drink decent enough, snorkelling was ok.

The resort is pretty self-contained - you're not going to walk to find other stuff to see, eat or do but for a lazy sleep, read, eat, drink holiday with some nice water action, it was very good.

Yeah i went with african safari and have no complaints like yourself,it was weird getting a police escort to the resort for security reasons thoughI stayed at Three Corners El Wekala Golf Resort which is 1 of about 5 only in this resort.

You can do many trips aswel so your not stuck in one place as many get bored,for once i enjoyed to relax and do sweet f.a.

Maldives in march so hope thats good

I was there a month ago, stayed a little out of town at the Royal Grand Azure.

Naama Bay is alright, good for nightlife, just don't expect authentic Egyptian culture!

And I hope you don't have any issues with Russians, as there are more of them in Sharm than I'd imagine are in Moscow right now.

My friend has just come back from Dahab and said it was lovely.
It's quite a laid back place if you like that sort of thing.

Oops, just re-read the title of your thread, Dahab isn't in Sharm El Sheikh lol
It's in Egypt though obviously

I went to Dahab and had a great time, it's much less commercialised than sharm but there are still plenty of decent restaurants on the beach front. Don't think there are any AI hotels there though, so sharm maybe better if you're looking for that.
