They dont like it I have no doubt but they have absolutely no interest in self sacrifice for their children i.e. supporting their education in the way the middle classes do - sorry I have over twenty years of observing this but please stick to your political prejudices if it keeps you happy:thumbsup:

This point, can be sociologically disproved. Its not a lack of input, its a lack of confidence in the elbourative language middle classes use (such as teachers) that may put off working classes from wishing to take an active role. Another point to make is the influence of teacher labeling upon students and their families. More often than not, the parents first port of call for information about teachers and their performance is when a parent asks "how was your day". If parents get constant information that the teachers are labeling students, then one of two options will be picked, challenge or the more likely, pulling out, where students aren't pushed by parents because parents feel that the educational system is failing them. This isn't the fault of the educational system its self, rather individual influences that are part of human nature.

Me? I'm a student.

I totally belive in familial attitudes being a major block on social mobility, but I think that the money that has been pumped in to education makes me a better student. As some one who has been in education since 98, i've seen a vast increase in the facilities availble to aid my education throughout my student career...

I do still see social injustice within education, largly based upon the family and individual families differences however these are things that i think a socialist government, or at the least, a left wing government will tackle and promote better than a right wing government.

Will have to agree to disagree - I'm pushing fifty & have been involved in further education since the late 1980's for professional reasons aside from my wife's full time job in education.

Quite agree that facilities may be be better but the throughput is much the same - people somehow don't become any cleverer when a government changes whether it is left or right wing.

Wish all parties would leave this area for the trained professionals to look after - don't start me on SATs!

Dale... the guy in the pink shirt that sits next of me at Albion games

I've a ten inch netbook, and i type fast, the key's are compact and making order mistakes happen son

My thing with the tories is the class discrimination. Why should the dreams of children be dictated by the income of their parents? Labour have taken steps to create a true meritocracy where the limits of a person achievement during their lives is limited only by the extent and direction of their dreams. I'd rather not go backwards under the tories.

The key's what are compact?! :p

In many respects I wish that were the case. I'm far from satisfied with the outgoing Labour government.

However the sad truth is that whilst they needed a good kick up the backside as a wake up call, all that we've achieved is a ramshackle half arsed government which nobody wants and is, whether we like it or not, doomed to fail ultimately leaving Labour time to have a quick rebrand with Gordon gone and a weakened opposition in power beset by petty insquabbling

I think you wil find it will be a long long time before labour are allowed to have another go after the total mess they have left the economy in, AGAIN.

I think you'll find you're wrong but we'll probably have to let the thread mature for a few months yet :)

I walked down my road, the sun was shining, not a breath of bad air on my back, the feeling of liberty, no law restricting my thought, oh this wonderful land, to be free from bureaucracy. England my ever England (p*** off the Scots)

What can i say? I'm a socialist at heart

Obviously you've got much more life experience than I have, and i won't even start to question that because thats just stupid.

And if that psychobabble came across as middle class insulting, it wasn't! Its just a sociological study that we've looked at in the Education topic.

I've looked at education in both politics and sociology, and i think under a labour government there is more social mobility as a result of their policies rather than under a Conservative government. But obvioulsy we'll agree to disagree
