Being gay doesnt mean at a so called "community/family" (whatever you want to call it) day that you have gay sex in the park for all to see.

It doesnt happen any other time. Oh its ok its Pride.

If it was more "Mardi Gras" or carnival (like the old Brighton Lions one) than what it actually is now I would be all for it. But its not. Not by a LONG way.

You dont get people off their faces on class A's or a huge amount of litter or stuff that is not excactly "family/child friendly" in the middle of the afternoon etc...

So what are "we" celebrating exactly?

It's one day year, it's a great event. Sure some stuff goes on that people may not approve of, but despite attending it in previous years I've yet to be confronted with anything untoward in public view, (don't go in the bushes mind).
Live and let live, Pride is for everyone these days and it's a laugh. It is also avoidable if you have no interest in it.

The reasons for looking at the 2012 event seem to be common sense to me from a logistical/practical point of view because of the Olympics, and not because the bigots in this town have finally got their way.

I think it is a good event to promote it, but it now as people have pointed out gone far beyond that, and people seem to bend the rules for one day because they are gay"

Being gay doesnt mean you suddenly have the right to start a BBQ on a bowling green, whilst drinking white lightning and dancing.

Being gay doesnt mean every shop and house can blare out Kylie Minogue as loud as they can out their window without thinking of their their neighbours

Being gay doesnt mean you are allowed to climb on top of cars and jump and dance on the roof and bonnet

Being gay doesnt mean you can get shit faced and shag in the local shrubbery

Police just walkpast and turn a blind eye to it because it gay day. If a group of football fans did it, then there would be police batons, pepper sprays and thousands of arrests

And as for the lesbians who go round suck huge cock lollies - YOU MADE YOUR CHOICE FFS!!

Spot on.

Plus the following day in Preston Park when families would like to use the park they pay for, only to find HC gay porn flying around, syringes & used condoms all over the place.

Being gay does not mean you get to treat our town like a shithouse on Clapham Common!

Everyone knows what goes on at Pride, maybe I'm just not that easily offended. Even if you live in the centre it is possible to make other plans just for the one day. I'll be attending this year and will hopefully enjoy the event as much as i did last year. The bushes comment was a gag really, even though we've all heard the stories.

Brighton is for the most part a tolerant place and that is the thing I feel is celebrated most at Pride especially as it is still a free event open to all. I think that is something worth celebrating.

I dont think anyone id s denying that, its just the way its "celebrated"

Precisely. And as we are so tolerant do we need it?

But its pushing the boundaries of what average people will tolerate!

Basically they should make the park a ticketed event and policed properly so they can fine/arrest the offenders and will no doubt have address details of said ticket holders. The parade can be open to everybody obviously (that bit is ok).

Which is why it should be ticketed IMHO.

Or at least held out of town.

The parade can stay.

Well it is obviously pushing the boundaries of what you will tolerate so I would advise staying away from the park as it is a one day only event. I can certainly see how some people would be offended even if I do not share that sense of offence. I think the fact that it is still a free event is a good thing and making it ticketed would change the nature of it. Even if some consider it an anything goes kind of day, it is gone and forgotten by the following week.

It is actually possible to attend the event and not see anything that may push the tolerance of the average person. It is for the most part a fun and entertaining party which is there to be enjoyed. By it's very nature and size it will cause inconvenience and disruption, but this is the price you pay for living in the most vibrant and interesting city in the land.

Queers. Act like total tossers when they get together at Pride, f***ing in public, cocks out, etc.

Call that Pride??

But the residents should have a say...ticketing will also allow proper control. Holding it say where beachdown is...well why not..?

And no it shouldnt be price you pay as some of us were born here. Other festivals do not cause so much disruption or indeed debate. Indeed to attend most things you have to pay - the parade bit as I say can stay free as you cant control where people choose to stand on the pavement or look out of the window. Put it back in the private sector. The price of the ticket can also pay for the clean up after.

Obviously there is a case for staying away but as other posters have said it still doesnt excuse what happens just because its pride or that they are gay.
