NSC has had a few problems again (http://www.northstandchat.biz/showthread.php?s=&threadid=14691) - not bandwidth this time but CPU usage at peak times.
The long and short of it is that it seems it is very difficult for NSC to live on a shared server - we're just too busy at peak times.
The long-term answer is a dedicated server - our own machine where we can be as rowdy as we like - there will be no neighbours to complain. This costs though, and a lot more than shared server arrangements.
So, if it came to it, would you pay £10 a year to have NSC? I stress that the charge would not be compulsory - but 100 users paying a tenner each would be more than enough to pay for NSC to run riot on it's own box.
Advertising could also return to keep any 'subs' as low as possible.
