World domination

CRYSTAL Palace supremo Simon Jordan wants to turn the Eagles into a global brand.

The Selhurst Park chairman wants to turn top flight football, and the millions that come with it, into a way of making his club known across the world.

After finally getting his dream of Premiership football - by spending around £30million since he took over as chairman four years ago wants to expand on several fronts.

Jordan wants to investigate the possibility of forging links with other clubs around the world to benefit Iain Dowie's team.

The chairman said: "We are looking as far afield as America, plus countries across Europe, Scandinavia and so on. We want to link up with overseas clubs, with a view to them being feeder clubs for us. We will also be looking at merchandising, but that's not the main motivation.

"Iain Dowie's brother Bob, who we recently appointed as director of football, will be heavily involved. He comes from a strong commercial background and is enthusiastic about taking this club further than it has been taken before."

You can't fault the man's ambition. But there are people in north London that have never heard of them.

Well if BOB's on board, the sky really is the limit eh.
By the way, I can exclusively reveal that Bob's "strong commercial background" is that he once had an audition to be the Mr Muscle furniture polish man, but just missed out at the final selection stage.

Nice to see they're banishing the inbred image. Has Dowie got any other members of his family they could employ to conquer the world, maybe his mum could become director of marketing in North America?

How they must wish that Steve Coppell was still at Selhurst! He knows the Thai teenage market inside out and back to front.

as 10cc say, not in hove
ian dowie cabbatch patch dolls?
a subbuteo goalkeeper who picks the ball out of his own net?
a crystal palace yo-yo? ("guaranteed to go down as quick as it goes up")?
a steve coppel pokemon character? ("poke-a-boy") ?

Haven't they've been down a similar road before? Weren't they going to be the team of the eighties? And then the team of the nineties? You can't really fault ambition, but over-weening ambition does get a little tiresome after a while.

They always get a little bit over-excited when they go up, don't they.

Great stuff! This is all an excuse for Dowie and his brother to go off around the world at Jordan's expense! I can see it now

"Simon? My brother says he's arranged a brilliant link-up with a club in Barbados. Says it'll really help us open up the whole marketplace, reckons it'll be huge. He's going to take the family, so he can show them how Palace can appeal to all age ranges. Oh, and i'm going to have to go as well. You know, they'll want to see a big name out there. Reckons it could take a month or so."
