Factoid: Although Richard E Grant played a pisshead, he was (and is) a teetotaler.

In the scene near the beginning where he drinks lighter fluid, they had been rehearsing with water in the canister. For the shoot, the director put vinegar in there instead - so the facial reaction we see is genuine, and not acted nor rehearsed.

Brilliant film - got it from Lovefilm a few weeks ago having not seen it in about 15 years! The missus had never seen it and didn't really get it.

I saw it when it came out with my then girlfriend - who really liked it. But since then I've not met a single woman who likes it.
