Why Facebook Is DOOMED In 2012

yep, millions of users which could swan off to another platform. like they left friends reunited and myspace before. the advertising click through rate for facebook is 0.04% compared to 8% for Google. 200 time more! most thier reveune comes from games, which could switch platforms. they can flogg the advertising but as we've seen with the "Geoff likes Coke" fiasco, people arent keen on their approach. THPP point is very valid, the brand has saturated everything. going public is an exit strategy for the current investors - or tell me why a company making a $1b on $4.2 revenues needs to raise capital?

what will be most interesting is how the timeline interface is recieved, the service relies 100% on the interface and if users dont like it they will simply stop using even if there isnt an alternative. it could be the biggest commercial suicide in history.

Yeah the current investors want to capitalise its current intangible assets and bank the money unsurprisingly enough, but I think Facebook is far more embedded in popular culture and more global than myspace ever was. It has 8 times more users than myspace had at its peak, and I dont think its saturated the market as it hasnt fully tapped China yet or other parts of the developing world. It's also less specific than myspace was (which was originally to promote music) and has peoples social lives on there (i.e photos, 'friends') from past few years. I dont think thats as footloose as you make out.

Its not about blocking stuff at browser level though. Its about masking out the bulllshit once you are logged on to Facebook. And Facebook are hardly going to offer you the means to do so.

Not on FB as my employer monitors it stringently for any disparaging or denigrating comments.

Surely your employer has no access to anything you say if you set your security settings correctly, and also, why would you risk making disparaging or denigrating comments in a publicly visible environment?

They said that about myspace, friendsreunited (as mentioned by Kevo), yahoo, AOL and thousands of other sites and companies. Anyone who pays serious money for an internet site, other than a porn one, is throwing their money down the drain quite frankly.

FacePorn could be a winner then ?

Just discovered a new and idiotic Facebook feature. I'm currently in the Canaries and when I log into Facebook at the hotel it wants my username and password AND wants me to identify two slanty writing random words AND identify no less than FIVE of my friends in a weird sort of multi-choice exam. At one Euro for ten minutes, that me first Euro just about gone. I know banks with less security levels. What on earth to they expect all these global hackers to do once they manage to access my Facebook account? Unlike somebody's post? Take the piss out of the 'woop woop'and 'five more sleeps til...' posts? Sake! That site is patently overstaffed, inventing solutions for problems that don't actually exist. Facebook is royally f***ed. IMHO, like.

I get the impression most people are using Facebook a lot less than two years ago.
