Why do we dislike Leyton Orient

I was wandering after chatting with someone who lives near Brisbane Road on the train back from the Lewes game. We had both watched the Lewes game, and he told that although he did not support a team he thought Leyton Orient fans were friendly, he said he thought we were friendly as well.

We were both puzzled as to why us and Orient don't like each other. Is it a historic thing or something?

I believe it started when some of our fans ran on the pitch and kicked their players?

Oh and their chairman said we should be kicked out of the league.

The 4-4 in 1997 innit. Amazing scenes, the most complete football experience I have ever had. 2-0 up after ten minutes, 3-2 down after fifteen minutes of the second half. Pitch invasions, Ray Wilkins getting floored by an Albion fan, the ref shitting his pants, sendings off and a late re-taken penalty from Paul McDonald rescuing the point.

Felt physically exhausted walking back across Hove Park afterwards.

Leyton who?

I don't give a jot about them one way or the other.

Exactly. They are another club that have no rivals and so try and start one with us. QPR have also done this, this season and over the last couple of season Reading. Our rivals are Palace, end of.

Actually regarding Reading, if Aldershot can manage 2 promotions and Reading do the decent thing and get relegated, then they will be able to play their proper rivals again. It must be sad when even Oxford do not care about you.

I don't think we do dislike them. We did at the time because of that game, and because they ALWAYS beat us.

But they did beat Hereford for us in 1997 on the penultimate game, which meant we were off the bottom by the time we played Hereford.

I just think they really don't like us - but alot of that is bitterness because of how our fortunes have diversified. There was a time when we all mocked them for missing out in the playoff finals (twice) when we couldn't even finish mid table. Now you just pat them on the head and almost hope they do go up - if only for the chance to outnumber them (yet again) at their place and show them what a crowd looks like.

They are a laughing stock with bells on. :lolol:

I am also of the opinion it is linked by the desperate need of the Orient fans to find somebody who cares. They will certainly tell you that they always beat us, so I have listed all the recent results below. They did get their fair share of wins - which just goes to show how far we had slipped - right down to their level. There is history (the 4-4, as has been mentioned) but not a real rivalry - Palace are the only team that matter in that respect. We have history too with Cardiff, Cheaterfield, Reading etc etc etc - but that's it, just a bit of history. Orient WISH we were their rivals.

I think also the fact that we turned the televised game at Brisbane road earlier that season into a mass demo against Archer & Bellotti, thus detracting some of the attention away from the fact that it was Peter Shilton's 1000th league game put the end up alot of O's fans. Certainly Barry Hearn anyway.

Hmmmm, I remember it well - Marvelous scenes, remember having a sit in after the game as well - about 12 of us, and sir stevie gritt came and sat on the terrace with us and had a chat

I hate them.

Drove up there the last time we played them and arrived about 3.20 due to bad traffic.

The gates were locked but I got a steward over and although I had a ticket he wouldn't let me in because he said the the stand was full to capacity.

This begs the question:

a: were they letting people in without tickets or
b: did they sell more tickets than the stand could hold or
c: the steward was a lying twat

No real reason to hate them and always enjoy a day out in East London.

The only ground where I've been threatened with eviction by a copper (for celebrating a goal by Martin Chivers), and have more to dislike the local police for than the supporters.

"We'll never play you again", so who cares?

Hope you don't mean 12 in total as there were flippin loads of fans. Remember the Southend fan (right down the front) who got arrested holding a placard in support of our plight ? 2 coppers dragged him out for nothing.

The game was televised and awful. Don't remember us mustering any attempt to test Shilton on his 1000th game

Afterwards was a typical Albion sit-in of the type we mustered many times after away games at the time. An impromptu newspaper bonfire was usually part and parcel of the protest too. Regularly in the North Stand.

What memories.
