Sat right by the box with Des Lynam about four seats along.

Dead Wilkins forgot that he had scored in the post match interview, saying that we'd been done 3 zip.

I was there. It's the only time my ex ever came to a football match - and she hated it, I was glad she never came again! Brings back mixed memories of a great occasion, but not a great day!

It was also the end of an era. That team surpassed themselves that year. In the next year players were let go and there was no investment and the bad days had begun.
'Twas indeed. We went from being one game away from the top division in 1991 to being one game away from the Conference in 1997. What a decline in six years. Whatever happens over the course of the play-offs I CANNOT see that scenario being repeated. I said something similar to that once before (in 1979 I maintained that we'd never go back to being a side stuck in the third division again) and was proved sadly and badly wrong, but I really can't see us slumping down towards the Conference again in my lifetime.

Lol. Remember that well.

Also regarding Wendy, I was sat right by the pitch ( if memory serves me there was the fence ) and I shook his hand on the lap of honour and he was in tears.

I love Wendy.

We went to Neasden? North of Wembley, was only 19.........the game? we were 2nd best all day,hit the wood work twice, wore that hideous new kit, looked good close up,but turned pink at a distance, took the drop the following season,my summer was ruined.

Don't really recall much about the whole day
Do remember getting into Wembley ridiculously early to savour the pre-match build-up and seeing the ground slowly fill up
After the match think kipped right through to the next day to kill the pain of losing and didn't watch any highlights of the game until a few years later

I flew back from the States, curtailing my round the world trip, to say I was gutted was an understatement. But, we sang "we'll be back" on the steps of Wembley after the cup final replay and we were, couldn't have missed it. Third time lucky? I hope so, but there is the small matter of the semi final...

I was eleven At the time and from what I remember it was a poor show and we were well beaten by a better side.
It has certainly been one hell of a ride. I'm just hoping we can make it to the new Wembley this year and hopefully it can be more memorable.

Haven't read the whole thread so apologies if already posted but that was the 5 year of the play offs. My overriding memory is that their first goal, scored by Johnson, came from a corner that should have been a goal kick!
