Really? Who else has expressed interest in investing £80m in brighton? If someone without the albion connections of bloom came along, would he have the support of the board? Given some fans' worries about one man being incharge even though he's an albion man, what would it have been if it was a non-albion man?
And if we didn't have someone to finance us and we went bust, what knight did would have been simply delaying our destruction, so Bloom ensured Knight's actions mean something.
Just putting the other argument out there.
Fair enough. Not knocking Bloom unduly. He seems to be taking one almighty punt on the Albion, and good on him for that. Delivers us the big prize, the shiny new stadium we've fought for a decade for. Big respect to the bloke. And if it all goes pear-shaped after he's built the stadium, then he can't unbuild it, and somebody else will step in and make the project work. But I'll always remember Dick Knight for his enduring enthusiasm and passion for the thing over the last ten years. Face it, who would relish that kind of aggro over that extended period when you're edging into retirement and most folks would settle for a quiet and peaceful life? And by DK being made Life President I think Tony Bloom is acknowledging the debt that is owed to the man.
