Scarfers deserved a whack on the back of the head, especially women and kids. The funniest thing was throwing stones and coins into packed terraces.

Chivalry was the name of the game.

Remember our friends up the 23 luzzing broken bits of the old terrace from the old pen at the Goldstone into us in the east stand along with coins. Kept the high value coins and threw the rest back. Some copper took a coin direct on the nose

Slightly off topic.

Was anyone on the coach for Chester away i think it was a Bank Holiday 89ish?

Left West Street about 11pm.

That would be the 1987/88 promotion season. Early May. Quite a few at that by all accounts.

I went a couple of times, once on the coach. Hartys Coach trip was intended to include a night out on Union Street, however local constabulary decided as there were US Navy and Royal Navy ships in port that night they already had enough to deal with and didn't want any Football aggro in addition, hence escorted out of the county of Devon. The aggro in Yeovil led to an escort out of Somerset too.

I remember 1st 86 I think Steve penney scored equalizer in the last minute and we went absolutely potty in the uncovered rain soaked end. Then our mob in police escort ran their mob across the park, the so called central element. Smelly Ron was there leading the charge lol. Then later on in 80s was the infamous gulls eye coach where someone got locked in boot coming home, then ran there mob again, and Yeovil where the town wanted to kill us as I remember. Thankyou Ian for that coach it was a day to remember and tell the grandkids. They don't make days out like those 2 anymore.
I believe I was at the first of those 2. I remember the small battle in the park. Thought we'd signed a real star in Les Berry that day. Seem to remember the old bill corralled us at the station, but we escaped through a tunnel and looked back down the hill to see them still guarding where they thought we were. Then at the station we all raided a local newspaper dispenser for a free copy of the fresh match report. Home Park was like the crater at the top of a volcano. In the heavy rain cars paraded around the pitch before kick off, each had some poor young drenched women holding a placard out of the sun roof. Strangely watching my daughter play footie on Hackney Marshes a few weeks ago, one of the Mums saw my BHA hat and turns out she had an ex-boyfriend from Sussex, who took her to that very game.

I remember vaguely a coach trip which had a suspect video playing on the coach 88 or 89 I think. Went with some lads from LA. Very drunk so can’t really recall too much

I was on the coach to Plymouth in 1989, first of 6 visits I’ve made to Home Park following BHA. Plymouth yobs tried to attack our pub in Union Street at lunchtime don’t think they realised there were 100 Brighton lads drinking inside that spilled out onto the street and chased them through the city. A terrible football match broke out at 3pm followed by more chasing of Plymouth yobs in the park after. Then onto Yeovil where more running around took place...had to be fit in those days

It was the first time I had gone to watch us play at Plymouth that day. All I recall is being escorted to the ground. In those days I was constantly hammered before 8am in the morning. Was smashed by the time I got to Brighton for one away game during that era. Happy days hazy memories.

Was that an evening game when their fans were having a go at Nelson for joining us. Tommy Tynan up front for them?

I think that was in the ZDS cup in 1990??. we won on penalties if I remember.

Pooled a sickie from work to go down, and missed the last train back to Woking. Ended up doing a pub crawl down union street then dossing down on the floor of a B&B with my 'Albion Family' who were staying down there over night, then sneaking out in the morning and having to buy another train ticket home.

went Sunday stayed the night but met the coach early doors., walking around. What a day.

I think we got there about 7.00 am. I remember splitting up, our group bought a football and played on the old bills car park not far from Chester racecourse.

Met up with the rest at 12 and then of to the pub. I won't bore you with the rest.

It was, we wanted to go to the Notts county game on the way home as they were playing Sunderland that evening but the driver wasn't having it.

Load of us did the same, four car loads I think it was. Slept in the car in some village just outside Derby for some reason.

It was n county v port Vale. We went after the game and got there during the 1st half. Port Vale beat n County and we were promoted. Worth the trip even though we somehow got lost enroute to nottingham

Don't know why i always thought it was Sunderland old age etc.

We wanted to go but the coach driver was not persuaded with cash.
