Mortgage repayments were subject to tax relief in the seventies, so it was even more affordable to buy a house then.

Still are on the Isle of Man and there is no upper limit !!!

Right, but the concern is that you use the equity in your house for a new car or a fancy holiday, then the house prices crash, and you have negative equity. Lets hope that doesn't happen.

In 55 years I have only ever known house prices to fall once and that was in the early 90's. It last for a year or two and have taken off again since, so any negative equity has been wiped out.
