Good question - I will have to give it some thought. Most songs which are written by the person that plays them are the definitive version, because that is the emotion that went into the song. The 'Covers that smash the originals' (or whatever it was called) gives a few examples (and many which are certainly not!)

My version of Leonard Cohen's 'First We Take Manhattan' is, IMHO, pretty damn good, but unfortunately(?) not available on the interweb thingy!

Funny that Leonard Cohen was mentioned early.

In my odd head I have him 'singing' all manner of tunes.

I'd love to have heard Leonard Cohen song some of the songs that I've written.

The Cash version of NIN’s Hurt is a good example of a cover which has more emotion than the original.

I'd like anything by Taylor Swift to be covered by Damien Hirst (in acrylic).

Aqua's Barbie Girl by System of a Down might be quite good.

I’d like to hear Oasis cover Stevie Wonder’s Uptight……..oh, it already happened on Step Out. They forgot to credit Stevie Wonder though.
