Pork pie land.
It has to be a game against Charlton (I think) in the fog at the Goldstone in the late 70s or early 80s. I was in the Chicken Run, and could not see either goal.

Brighton V Reading when we had to wear our away kit at home because some genius at Reading didn't realise we played in blue and white

Also, remember when we had to wear Leicester's yellow away shirt at their ground because both our away kits were blue?

I remember that, Jason Jarrett made his Brighton debut wearing a Leicester kit (having been a Leicester player in the past). Bizarre. Even stranger, we managed to sneak a 0-0 draw against the team that went on to win the league. Leicester struggled with us that season in general, pornomagboy.

11.30am kick off on a Thursday!

The 7-0 v Walsall, with all the goals in the last 28 mins of the match - but only two goal-scorers (two hat-tricks) - was quite "unusual" too!

Mansfield boycott and Fans United games have to be included.

Of the ones mentioned by the OP, I remember the Crewe game clearly - they absolutely out-classed us with their brilliant passing football. Deserved to be applauded off the pitch.

Surreal to kick off on a Thurs morning! And I think we were already relegated?

Couple of others spring to mind - Darlo at Gillingham.. Marco Gabbiafuckface scored a couple for them and I think they were about 3-0 up after half an hour?! Jeff Wood era - say no more. The 4-0 down to Colchester at half time that ended 4-4!

Another from the Goldstone - the game where we walked out with 15 mins to go once the firework had gone off, can't remember who it was against.

:lolol: That Darlington game was special. I'm not sure why we chose that game, but all my junior footie team went to that game with the Junior Seagulls coaches, I was giving it the biggun about how good we were and how they should support Brighton rather than Man Utd.... I could have chosen a better game to persuade them. Very depressing that game. Gabbiadini hit a hattrick, they won 4-0.

We were 3-0 down to Colchester, I think we got it back to 3-3 and then went 4-3 down and needed another equaliser? Might be wrong, but it was deffinitely 3-0 at half time. I was a ball boy down at the end Colchester scored their 3 in the first half, my personal highlight that day was handing the ball to Kerry Mayo. What a moment.

And didn't our manager at the time (Taylor?) commend our players after the match for showing 'pride in the shirt'?

It was Micky Adams (it was only a couple of years ago, 08/09 season), but it wouldn't suprise me if he had said that. :lolol:

Sheffield Utd 5, Brighton & Hove Albion 4 in 1989.

was pretty weird. Especially as we had been 3-0 down, and then 4-3 up. AND STILL LOST IN THE LAST MINUTE!

and you can re-live it here...........

Strangest was none of those ..... Crystal Palace 2 Brighton 1. An absolute screamer from Ian Wright, one of the best goals I've seen live, and a penalty from Bright, while Curbs scored a penalty for us. Meanwhile, Wright, Bright and John Pemberton all missed penalties for Palace.

Just unreal. I can clearly see the groundsman coming out and painting teh penalty spot in front of us at half-time, ahead of Palace kick-ing towards us for teh second half. The groundsman was spot-on as well, because they did get a 2nd half pen, that was Pembertons miss.

The strange thing was, when I got home and saw it on telly, the worst decision was OUR penalty. There was a harsh handball, but beyond that the other 3 pens were nailed on!

That was in my mind as well. Amazing game, and as I remember it there was a 20 minute spell when Paul Wood was just brilliant. he seemed to us to be doing exactly what he always did, charging full pelt outside the full-back before try to stop and turn inside suddenly. Every other full back seemed to read this like a book, but teh poor Sheff Utd left back fell for it time after time.

Having pulled back to lead 4-3, it was one of the emotionally draining endings I've ever experienced. At the final whistle (or maybe their 5th, as that was about the same time as I remember it) I just slumped to the ground and sat there on the terrace completely numb. I looked around and everyone just looked shell shocked.

One of the matches I remember most is one I was forced to miss.

As a youngster I was taken to Albions FA First Round Tie away at non league Walton & Hersham (it was one of Cloughies first games in charge early 70's) - we drew 0-0.

The replay at the Goldstone was played midweek kick off 1 pm due to power cuts meaning no floodlights available for evening matches. I couldn't go as I was told to go to school by my parents, I remember running home to find out the score convinced we would have thumped them:nono:
We LOST 0-4 at home !

record book shows that four days later we Lost 2-8 at home to Bristol Rovers - oh the glory days

Hereford.

Reading this thread, it strikes me just how many odd games we've been involved in!

I suppose historically there are plenty no-one on here will have witnessed. The year when we had to play in all the FA Cup qualifying rounds, beating the likes of Shoreham 12-0, must have been pretty weird.

In the 58-59 season, as well as losing 9-0 to Middlesbrough in the opening game of the season, we also lost 6-4 at home to them - a game which was on Match of the Day (never seen it tho!).

Not strange as such but another, often forgotten, match that stands out is the 6-0 win over Rotherham (who then had a decent side and were above us in the league) the following season at Highbury in an FA Cup second replay. You might have expected a low attendance at a neutral venue in London on a Monday night, but the crowd was over 32,000 - the majority from Sussex. Fans at the game apparently said it was the best-ever performance by any Albion team. What a place to do it.

On NSC for over two decades...
The keeper was Clayton Ince, who proceeded to drive the Albion fans mental all game, by rolling around and clutching the ball to his chest, EVERY time he collected it, even if it rolled tamely along the ground to him, or spooned gently into his hands.

He also picked up an in-play ball that was outside the area without the linesman batting an eyelid - it was one of those days!
