I am one of those mugs that buys CDs from shops
I have never downloaded anything as i understood you can get fined and all your stuff taken away. How can i prevent this - obviously I would prefer to have loads of music and a healthier bank balance but I would rather stay out of jail too ?
I am genuinely interested in downloading but how safe is it ? I need some tips please.

Downloading is a great way of experiencing different styles that you wouldn't normally take a risk on. For instance I kept hearing of an artist that the music magazines rated highly but looked a bit too weird for me. d/l an album and have since gone on to buy that album plus a load more of his stuff. And as I have said before it is nice to give something back to the artist plus you can't beat a high quality spine sitting on the rack.

Films are a different kettle of fish though....

I get most of my stuff via The Pirate Bay (Download music, movies, games, software! The Pirate Bay - The world's largest BitTorrent tracker), or PunkOiSka.com. Nice collections of stuff, including movies for Ipod, etc.

I buy what I like, but sometimes I nick stuff that I am still thinking about, or stuff that I have on vinyl that I can't convert because I can't be arsed to connect all the f***ing cables.
