Where exactly was Millwall's old ground?

I can also remember a constant torrent of missiles, coins, lumps of concrete etc being thrown over the partitioning fencing segregating home & away fans.

The Police escort back to station was something else, but to the Met's credit, there wasn't a Milwall fan to be seen, just a wall of mounted police to the front side & rear.

Have to be honest and say I was on a coach, so didn't go to the station, but the missles and things I remember, for some reason seem to recall getting in there early as well, and getting one of the better views, you know where only 3/4s of the ground was obscured by the floodlight

As well as the main car park bit behind the main stand, there was a narrow alleyway behind separated by a brick wall, adjacent to the houses gardens, which was the official entrance route for away fans. The coaches all arrived from the West side, not along Cold Blow Lane, but to get to the train station, the alleyway was the only route.

And that was scary, prime ambush territory for away fans, hence the mounted escort.

I can best describe it as walking over waste ground with bushes, burnt out cars, and brick walls for the friendly locals to hide behind.

There was a plentlyfull supply of stones, bricks, bottles, shopping trolleys for before and after the match ambushes. It had to be one of the worst walks to an away end in the country.

I have never seen a bunch of fans with so little respect for the police in my life. During the Playoff match some of the more bored Millwall supporters decided to have a kick about on the terrace with a coppers helmet. Another walked round with a police riot shield held aloft like some sort of war trophy!

You could see the pitch from the grass bit on the south side for nought.

That's were the fans would go when they got thrown out. Hundreds up there.

Not sure when that photo was taken because I cant see the tunnel that was near the ground that we walked through the season after the playoffs. I assume the pic was taken after they moved to the new den.

I remember coming out of the ground after the semi final. After about an hour we had made it as far as the end of stand you had to go behind when some Millwall directors came out with a few plates of sandwiches from the boardroom!

I also remember standing at the front of the stand and deciding that the back of the stand might be a bit safer after a lump of concrete smashed at my feet. Looking at the size of it it was probably thrown by Geoff Capes.
