Where exactly was Millwall's old ground?

I go past the New Den most days on the train but never made it to the old one - whereabouts was it in relation to the new ground and the train line that goes near it?

Yes, I am more than a bit bored today.

I think it was actually on Cold Blow Lane, which actually exists still. I looked it up in my London A-Z when I was on a doorstep that wasn't going to happen.

It was about 500 yards away.

Look for ' Cold Blow Lane ' in an A-Z, that was the road outside the main entrance.

I think it's a housing estate now.

a bit further away from the railway than the current ground and just after New Cross Gate station on the same side.

On the left just after you emerge from New Cross Gate station going towards London Bridge, about 400 yards away from the railway. There are new houses there now.

My first away game was at the Old Den, I was only 14, went byself because I couldn't find anyone else to go with. At the time I didn't know why But what a game was the play off game second leg

A classic away game and one where nobody seemed to mind being locked in for over an hour when it was over. The burning police helmets (with heads inside?) was a little intimidating!

A classic away game and one where nobody seemed to mind being locked in for over an hour when it was over. The burning police helmets (with heads inside?) was a little intimidating!

I don't think they were the happiest bunch of supporters that day! They also tried to set fire to their own stand during the match, and when they tried and failed to get to us for a fight, decided to take on there fellow supporters, police and stewards.

Anyone remeber the massive coach convoy that went up that evening. we arrived so early that the police made us park up next to a big park in London for an hour or so, someone got a football from the pertrol station, and the next thing was we were having a 500-a-side game of football. The neighbours were not best pleased.

All these years I have told people about that and nobody believed me, to the point I assumed I had just imagined it, but I didn't. What an experience as your first away game

I can also remember a constant torrent of missiles, coins, lumps of concrete etc being thrown over the partitioning fencing segregating home & away fans.

The Police escort back to station was something else, but to the Met's credit, there wasn't a Milwall fan to be seen, just a wall of mounted police to the front side & rear.
