But I also have everything tagged (ID2.3) properly for iTunes etc - makes it easy to sort by genre, date or whatever.

Can recommend the program at http://www.id3-tagit.de/ - you can create tags from filenames and vice versa in seconds. (Tip: don't bother with ID1.x tags).

iTunes is great, but ONLY if you disable the 'Let iTunes manage my folders' option. If you let it anywhere near your folders, yes it organises them, but it also steals all your MP3's so you can't access them accept through iTunes.

Which is shite.
