1280x1024, it's the max I can use on this monitor, and it allows me to play 4x poker tables at a time without overlap, which is nice. :)

PS: for the technical whizz-kids: what is the future of TV. Will we get it through Broadband, or cable, or do we still need an aerial on the roof?

In a flyer from Dell I have they show a nice 37inch TFT TV that runs Windows XP Media Centre. This stores your pictures, CDs, movies etc and shows TV with the concurrent recording and live rewind stuff you get with an HD recorder.

In the Government BBC funding review they are looking at ways to recover license fee from TV distributed by Broadband.

So I guess your going to get a single all-singing PC/TV unit and a choice of distribution media (digital terrestrial, digital satellite, broadband, and cable). And you'll still have to pay a license whichever medium you use!

TFTs are inherently digital devices and they have a "natural" resolution corresponding to the number of pixels they are made from. However most PCs output an analog signal so the TFT converts the analog back to digital so if you output a 1024x768 analog signal it will get "stretched" for display on a 1280x1024 TFT. You will get a better visual quality by outputting 1280x1024.

Depends on your graphics chip if this affects games.

Hopefully PCs and TFTs will soon be connected by DVI-D (digital) cables and this analog nonense will disappear.

Thanks. Mine is connected by DVI-D so presume I should go to 1280 x 1024

Er... did you actually vote?

I specifically referred to your main PC in the original message - that is, the PC you use the most.

Cheers.
