Right now kids, we popped down to our favourite drinking establishment last night, to discover to our horror that the landlord has ripped up all the carpet and replaced it with laminate flooring!!

Now many a pub in the olden days would have had wood flooring, but LAMINATE?? Blimey charley....Anyhow - it now looks like something more akin to a fry up cafe. Heaven knows how the bands going to sound when they play there in a few weeks, and Arthur couldn't run around without slipping and falling to save his life. Not to mention the ice skating dog!!

I don't think its a pub anymore - its a bar with chairs....but Zef says thats still a pub!! OK technically speaking he's right - but is this a feature that could make or break a pub??

I don't want to go back now!!

Has a sign above the door with the name of the licence holder usually gives it away.

We've got a criteria for a good pub:

20% Good Beer
20% Dart Board/Pool Table
20% Sky Sports
20% Jukebox
20% Pretty Barmaid

We also add extra points on for a log fire in Winter and Beer Garden in Summer.

Carpet, possible red with some horrific pattern. Old dodgy wood tables with seats to match. A white ceiling thats turned yellow from all the smoke. A barmaid who is particually attractive but looks good upfront so you can get drunk and be vulgar. A tele to watch the football/darts/cricket whatever. Reasonable priced drinks, a seat that you always sit in. Staff that arnt f***ing nazis.

Real ale
Real welcome
Good friendly bar staff
Good punters.

Evening Star is my fav. It's the sort of place where you can sit for a quiet drink on your own or you can always find somebody to chat too.

Staff always have a willing smile.

Only 2 gripes. the toilets do stink and smoking - but that will be solverd soon.

Decent barstaff - better if they remember your order
Decent beer
Non-twat doorstaff

Decor doesn't really matter much, my local is a fading attempt at late 90s chic at this stage, and my regular spot back home in Donegal is unchanged since 1977...
