What constitutes a big club methodology needed

Every time we have a discussion about which club is bigger, whether it's with the visiting Palace lot, or previously with Reading when they were poaching all our players, we never agree on what factors influence this status.

So what factors come into play and how much weighting does each one get? I'd say something like historical crowd sizes and trophies won probably come into it, plus current stadium size.

I reckon maybe "number of supporters taken to playoff or other finals" should come into it somewhere.

Luton might not agree.

This year Luton took 40 000 odd to the paintpot. Gillingham have sold over 45000 for the play offs, Millwall over 40 000, both still with 2 days at least to sell.

Jolly up day outs at shiny new wembley for once every five year merchants mostly, no barometer of potential support at all.

facilities, ground, training facilities, management setup, Fanbase and financial clout, basically in two years we'll be well sorted.

[Size of chip on shoulder x number of tiers beneath perceived 'true' level] – number of STHs unable to get tickets for Spurs, West Ham etc + years spent in top flight before it became the Premiership and was thus about how good you were not just how much money you had x quality of Chairman's facial hair

Having a personalised number plate on the club coach must be up there.

For me it's about one thing, crowd size, and as I've said before, a club like Wigan could win the Premiership and European Cup twenty years straight and they'd still be a small club in my eyes.

How many of their shirts you see on a foreign trip, with the caveat that they are being worn by locals and not Brits or ex-pats on their holidays or living there...on that basis Man Utd must be considered huge if the number of their shirts you see abroad is anything to go by.

I reckon a club stays the same size in your mind as when you first started taking an interest in football. Thus Reading are still a Div 3 club, Pompey Div 2 etc. This where they were in the 60's when I first started watching.

On the local news this morning they said that Scunny have sold 7,000 of their 21,000 allocation.

There are various factors that point towards size.

Is your club a big club?

1) Does your club have a virtual fans 'forum' with more than 4,000 members (including groomers and spammers)?

2) Does your club have more than 3 z-list celebrities as fans?

3) Has your club won the FA Charity Shield?

4) Did the ticket allocation for cup ties (say two London clubs, for example) outstrip supply?

5) Does your club have or has plans for an arena with an associated hotel and casino complex?

6) Is your club the only professional league team in the county?

7) Does your club discard players who appear in the World Cup and Champions League?

8) Did the most famous player of all time, David Beckham, make his debut at your ground (or former ground)?

9) Does Des Lyman support your club?
