Virus Protection

AVG i have found is good http://free.grisoft.com/doc/1 and is free.

I have had AVG for over a year now and its very good updates every day.

I've got the new McAfee Suite, and everything on the web is snail slow now....so much so that I have had to shut most features off so the machine actually works!

Any ideas why?

Because McAfee and Norton are huge, much bigger that AVG. Your pc just isn't powerful enough to handle it.

Check that you can still watch DVDs. The uni antivirus stuff slows down my viewing speed and sound making it unbearable.
