I am all in favour of signing promising younger players to develop but when can we expect to see the fruits of signing all of these ones 'for the future'? Who was the last 'for the future' player who broke through to the first team and stayed there?
Another one 'for the future', I guess
Dunk, March, Elphick, Ince ... Could have been Cook
I'm all for the development squad, but I am surprised at how well we seem to be selling it to players from overseas who appear to be willing to give up regular league football (admittedly not always in the best leagues) in order to disappear into what appears to be a bit of a black hole here.
Money talks - we are probable paying them more to play in the under 23s than they got where they were. Nobody would sign to not play and take a pay cut
How many Prem clubs have two home grown players come through the ranks into their first team?
Let's see how the Albion place at the end of this season with Dunk and March.

And Steve Cook, at Bournemouth (presumably Gareth Barry would count for Aston Villa, as he left Albion after his U-16 season and served as a trainee at Villa Park).
As far as Premier League minutes played last season are concerned, Manchester United's academy provided the most:
Pogba, Rashford, Lingard (Man United)
Heaton (Burnley)
Keane (Everton)
King (Bournemouth)
Drinkwater (Chelsea)
Simpson (Leicester)
Shawcross (Stoke)
Evans, Fletcher (West Brom)
O'Shea, Love, NcNair, Gibson, Januzaj (Sunderland)
Tottenham were 2nd:
Kane (Spurs)
Daniels, Smith (Bournemouth)
Townsend (Palace)
Manchester City were 3rd:
Iheanacho, Schmeichel (Leicester)
Mee (Burnley)
Clayton (Middlesborough)
Whelan (Stoke)
The rest of the top 20:
4. Southampton
5. West Ham
6. Everton
7. Arsenal
8. Sheffield United
9. Chelsea
10. Ajax
11. Feyenoord
12. Barcelona
13. Crystal Palace
14. Aston Villa
15. Middlesborough
16. Genk
17. Liverpool
18. Sporting Lisbon
19. Derby
20. Schalke

Now a 1st team squad member? His stats are pretty impressive. Is he ready?
I dont think that he is ready to be thrown in but could well make the bench and make some brief appearances with hopefully some limited success.
