I was very sad and surprised to hear about Gary Speed's death. What a fine attacking player he was. He gets the opener in this game, also memorable for Mervyn Day getting in a tangle in the net at the start....

Great side Leeds had that season to win the old second division title.

Gordon Strachan, Gary Speed, Vinnie Jones, David Batty, Lee Chapman amongst others. I went to West Ham v Leeds early on in that 1989/90 season and Vinnie scored the winning goal that was a backheel fluke. Their fans went mental when he scored. Very frightening when I was only 11!

Apart from that free kick against Peterboro he has taken corners Dean Cox would have been proud of as well as that penalty against Millwall.
