Train tickets, yet again

As I have said in a previous thread - get yourself down to the Brighton or any Southern ticket office and if you can travel in a group of 4 you can get a groupsave 4 ticket travelling via Kensington Olympia and Watford Junction all the way to Birmingham New Street for a total of £83.60. Split that 4 ways and you are laughing! Leave Brighton at 0849 and arrive in Birmingham at 1136 - simples! So long as you travel via Kensington Olympia (changing at East Croydon and again at Watford Junction) you can join any Virgin Train from Watford Junction. I have booked seats too so bring it on!
How have you managed this? Do you have any details, I tried to get this ticketed at Brighton and the guy was not aware of a deal / or ticket that came close to that price?
Best we got was £75 for 3 people to go on that right, but HAD to go on London Midlands trains only but the last train from Birmingham is 17.33...
