not a peep on the climate emergency from either candidate? or is that filed under woke nonsense?

It barely registers in the top 10 of Tory members. Insular and selfish. The worst of Britain..

Well they have both said that they will stop/crackdown on the development of onshore renewables (wind and solar). Truss has said that she will allow fracking, end the green levy and ramp up north sea gas extraction. So there is that.

Remember Truss used to work for Shell and with the Tories who knows what think tank is pulling the stings.

The commitment to fracking is particularly bonkers. We currently have a hosepipe ban across the country and meteorologists warn that droughts could be become more frequent and more severe - just the right time to introduce fracking, a technique that requires an average 45m litres per well. Total madness.

well that depends if you want to consider energy security. if you dont then fracking is indeed bonkers. if you are concerned, you should at least consider it and how it could be done in the short term, what problems are that can be managed like water. one long term policy dominates over others, we end up with a energy price crisis because no one knew how fragile part of the supply is. we could mitigate that in short term but wont. none of this will be discussed rationally though

Rationally? You mean like the climate crisis has been discussed rationally by successive governments? Ie by recognising that dealing with it threatens the profits of you and your rich mates, sticking fingers in ears, and allowing the energy companies to deliberately spread lies about the science and the media to portray anyone expressing concern as trouble making hippies? Until it's too late and our planet is, quite probably, screwed. Along with our children's futures.

F*ck me. There is nothing, NOTHING, rational about the way we have run our economy for decades now.

No UK government should be committing to new sources of fossil fuel extraction in these isles.

How about a drive to actually trying to save energy, even Andrea Leadsom described this as “low hanging fruit”.

But Truss has said that she's not considering energy security as she wants to close all solar farms. So, if energy is not a concern but water is, then going down the fracking route is crazy.

well yes, closing any form of energy is insane and i cant fathom any logic behind that. they've spent years subsidising farmers to build them too.

Close solar farms, surely not? I think that's incorrect...

But that would assume some sort of policy beyond 'say anything in the next 5 minutes that will get the terminally gullible to vote for me'. She's obviously learnt from a master

Indeed. And just as farmers are about to have subsidies cut.

The other thing about fracking (apart from the water usage) is that this is not carried out in Labour-voting urban areas, it will be Conservative rural seats, whose residents won't be happy about loss to water supply, potential subsidence, traffic disruption etc. I'm not sure that this is the vote winner that Truss thinks it is

I don't know how to embed tweets but there's this:

"Last night in Exeter Liz Truss was cheered by Tory Party members for "vowing to get rid of solar farms" (says Sky News). So, in an energy crisis a contender for PM promises to wipe out 4% of the UK's electricity production... and is cheered?"

They should be throwing money at people to stick these things on their roofs instead she wants to close them. Madness. She'd say anything to appeal to the base. An economist was on the radio this morning who reckoned her proposals would cost 85 Billion and ensure interest rates rose to 7%. Happy times ahead.

Don't get me started on water. Horrible link from an ads point of view to click on so let me summarise :

Nine water industry fatcats received more than £15million in pay and bonuses last year as the number of times their firms pumped raw sewage into our seas and rivers rose 37%.

The average wage for bosses at the water and sewage companies in England was nearly £1.7m and their standard salary rise was 27%
