I think people are reading too much into it. It IS a portrayal of the evoluition of American society for the post-WW2 generation, but its also just an enjoyable story.

Seems to me that we have lots of wannabe film critics on here. Can people not just enjoy a film for what it is without wanting to delve into what its saying and what it means.

Not really into soppy films, but Forrest Gump I would say is ok, and I have to confess to having it in my DVD collection

I was about to say the same thing jr. Like a lot of hollywood pap, it has a storyline that leaves you wondering why they bothered as it didn't have a message or reason. Aimless character building leads to meandering tale that loses itself and everyone else, but manages to amaze public at large.
