I can live with the music but not the DJs. That girl with the accent drives me nuts.

Never the same since they farmed out Mark and Lard.

Moyles says it like it is and I like the way he will pick up on the crap playlist.

Jo Whiley is great (and also a MILF) but she must be looking towards a Radio 2 or 6 spot in the next change around.

Colin and Edith are a poor man's Tim and Helen.

I would like to join the punch in the throat queue for Scott Mills, he is a stereotypical closet liver and shouds stick to student union bars.

Best show/playlist is the weekend lie in, just a shame it is presented by Vernon Kay.

Finally, why do all the Newsbeat reporters speak the same way, clones of Georgina Bowman, the last word of every sentence is lengthened.

...Haven't listened to it in years.

I like radio 1, but i guess its cos im not old. Yes some of the music is cack, but Moyles is funny as f***. Mills is ok, bit annoying.

Specialist shows are ace though ! - Pete Tong, Jules, Zane, Fabio+grooverider etc etc!

Mark and Lard were far too clever for Radio 1. I always used top like the piss take of the 'Big Shout outs' on Fridays that Pete Tong used to do - Hi Mark its Dave from Britsh Rail here. Can you give a big shout out to all of the workman laying down some essential tracks this evening - Its going to be a late one.

As for Newsbeat I'm sure they must write the scripts in crayon. I remember once I listened to it they had to remind listeners that Tony Blair was the Prime Minister of Britain. Talk about dumbing down.

If Radio 1 had to go ad-funded in the morning, I'm not sure it would be able to. Get it on DAB here (lovely Grundig DAB antenna on my TV mast aimed at Northern Ireland) and my f***, its shite.

Haven't listened to it since the Hairy Cornflake left. Cheesy they may have been but I loved Steve Wright, Simon Bates, Ooh Gary Davies, Noel Edmonds, Jimmy Saville, Tony Blackburn, Arnold the Dog, DLT, Bruno Brookes.

Live from the Wish Tower Slopes Eastbourne, with Garrryyy Davies! :clap2: :clap2:

For those of you who remember the 90s radio 1 try digging out Simon Garfield's 'The Nation's favourite' which tells the story in the same style as Build A Bonfire of the station from the purge of the dinosaurs to the resignation of Chris Evans. There are some absolute gems in there particular from Peel, how at Radio 1 staff christmas parties everybody would rush to the seating plan to find out if they were sitting anywhere near Simon Bates followed by general rejoicing if they weren't. Apparrently, him, Kid Jenson and Paul Burnett got drunk at one of them and decided to beat Bates up in the car park but he did not turn up.

Peel also makes the point that most DJs at the station regard it as a leg up into the entertainment world and this still rings true today. Those that really like music tend to be shunted out into the late evenings to allow the shouty types room to massage their egos during the daytime.

The other thing that has probably killed the station during the day is the playlist. If you listen all day you really do get the feeling you're listening to the same songs all the time. The play list is so rigid I think all DJs are only allowed two songs per show of their own choice. The net result is just tedious and repetitive and indicative of Radio 1's attempt to chase the 16-25 market during the day time, hence the dumbed down news which tries the patience of anybody with any kind of intelligence.

Have barely listened since Peel died.

Listen to Chris Moyles in the morning he makes me laugh and wakes me up in the morning.
Jo Whiley knows her music but is so restricted due to it being daytime.
Don't listen to it otherwise and i can't stand Scott Mills everyone seems to think he's god, i just think he's a tw@t.

but I loved Steve Wright

I remember doing jack shit in the ticket office at Hassocks one afternoon during a National British Rail ASLEF strike and Steve Wright in the afternoon had the immortal trailer.......

"Jimmy, Jimmy oh Jimmy Knapp when will the trains be back"

Absolute classic
