brighton, actually
.
....Coun David Neighbour, the council's cabinet member for planning, is fighting for the East Saltdean and Telscombe Cliffs ward. He said: "We're against the building of any major construction on an area of outstanding natural beauty." [/B]

i think we're ok, then- Falmer hardly qualifies!

to be fair ti the guy, that is what the LIb Dems have been saying since 2005 at least.

This is from their web site http://leweslibdems.org.uk/news/000006.html

Although in agreement that the team requires a new stadium, local Lib Dem campaigners remain convinced that Falmer is the wrong location for it to be built. They can ask for a judicial review to take place which could still put the brakes on the project. Local Lib Dem District Cllr Neil Commin said:

"Two independent and highly experienced planning inspectors agree with us and it's difficult to see how the Deputy Prime Minister can ignore their recommendation."

"His own government has issued planning guidance designed to protect Areas of Natural Beauty and National Parks against this sort of development."

"We'll be studying his letter in some depth to see how he justified his decision."

Opposition to the development is also backed by the local Lib Dem MP Norman Baker who added, "This decision has been made purely for political reasons rather than on planning grounds."

Previous news story: New Lib Dem group launched in Newick (Tue 1st Nov 2005).
Next news story: ID cards are expensive and won't work say Lewes Lib Dems (Mon 7th Nov 2005).

Printed and hosted by Prater Raines Partners, 82b Sandgate High Street, Folkestone CT20 3BX.
Published and promoted by Lewes Liberal Democrats, 23 East Street, Lewes, BN7 2LJ.
The views expressed are those of the party, not of the service provider.

It's still half truths because Falmer didn't break any planning laws.

Which is why we got the decision (although ODPM cocked the document up).

But the fact remains that they have not said they were against the need for the stadium, they just didn't (and still don't) agree that Falmer is the best place for one.

Which is a perfectly fair view to hold.

And to be fair, more planning inspectors have agreed with their point of view than ours.

we may disagree with them about the location, but we are agreed on the need for a stadium. they just have a different opinion from ourselves.

The first planning inspector was there to review the Brighton planning and a Falmer stadium wasn't in his remit.

The second inspector did look at Falmer and said that all sites should be considered because only Falmer had been considered by Brighton planning committee. That was why a second public inquiry was held to decide which was the best site. The need for a stadium was decided in the first inquiry.

The LibDems are obviously being economical with the truth as they know the SP will pick up votes tomorrow , so they are telling the electorate that Falmer wasn't the issue but 2 Jags attitude. I've just had a flier through the door from the LibDems , It says that the ward in Grimsby where I live hasn't been Conservative for several years and a vote for them will let in Labour. It also says that the Conservatives haven't bothered to stand in the ward since 99 - what it doesn't say is that there was a LibDem/Tory pact not to stand against each other so they would keep Labour from becoming the largest group on the Council. As the Seagulls Party are not standing in Grimsby I will be voting for an Independent candidate in my ward and hoping enough do likewise to kick out the sitting LibDem councillor.

Regardless of what was or wasn't said by Prescott or either of the Inspectors at the Public Inquiries, the current Lib Dem duplicity arises from one of their candidates attempting to distance himself from his own party in order not to lose votes at the elections tomorrow! Which is, to put it kindly, a misguided course of action since it calls into question the courage of his convictions.

When out canvassing, it's far better to be honest with people on the doorstep even if you tell them things they disagree with. That way you avoid making a deceitful buffoon of yourself - and certainly avoid this fact reaching a wider audience!

Lest we forget.

Everything the Lib Dems say or promise is a load of old...

That's a complete cop-out though. Even Marina Pepper says there should be a stadium - just not at Falmer. However we have PROVED there is nowhere better and so you CANNOT hide behind the "we're in favour of a stadium - but put it somewhere else" argument. Or 'lie' to give it its real name.

Ergo they are still lying bastards. I don't know how you can even attempt to defend their position.
