A greengrocers in Tarring Road Worthing that was next door to the Clifton had an open front display as was the trend in the 50s. On our way to Holy Trinity School we used to nick an apple so the owner put a box by the door with the apples he wanted us to take and left a note 'Please help yourself' that stopped us having apples for break time no fun any more.
