The worst hotel/hostel you've ever stayed in

an ex soviet block, it had about 64 floors. our rooms were on the 54th. no lift, just narrow concrete stairs. no central heating (the government told them not to turn it on.) the temperature never got above freezing. employees 'running' each floor of the hotel - the usual currencies were drugs or sex. there were no beasts or critters because it was too damn cold, but the place was filthy. the mattresses were filled with corn or something. no running water because the pipes were frozen. the football we went for was called off so got blotto on the vodka, decided to sleep in the hotel foyer because being drunk those stairs just seemed like one step too far. woken up by their armed police who escorted us to the airport but not before rifling through our stuff and cleaning us out of anything that was worth more than 20p.

Starry, was it called the Ljubjanka (sic)...if so, that wasn't a hotel, it is a prison.

Absolute worst was a 'hotel' in Manchester thats now been downgraded to 'guest house' in the latest tourist guide I can find, was run by a religious sect, breakfast stopped being served at half 8, no TV in the rooms - just a central 'TV room' further down. I suspect it was a converted monastery or something.

However, going off what I expected th what I go - The Europa in Belfast. Seriously. Surly staff, tiny room for the price/rating of the hotel, 80s decor, no free internet (its 4 star...) no free parking (once again, in a FOUR STAR hotel, ffs). They lost my reservation, luckily I had a copy of the confirmation on me. Expensive food that wasn't very edible, etc, etc. However it was one of the only hotels open that time (checked in Boxing Day) in the centre of Belfast.

Stayed in a terrible hostel in Hong Kong about five years ago, accessed by a lift deep within a really dark, dodgy indoor market.

Room was tiny and filthy, with small peep holes in walls and ceiling that had been bunged up with bog roll.

Spent much of the night trying not to listen to shagging sounds in the rooms all around me, creaking beds and constant moaning.

Turns out it was an unofficial knocking shop :lolol:
