My parents used to live over the road (in Cheshire) from a bloke who represented Sri Lanka in the ski jump.

He used to practice using a metal frame that he had fitted on his garage roof.

Marvellous scenes.

Downhill is good. And ice-hockey I'll be cheering for Canada, my country of birth.

Like others I ended up watching curling at some stupid hour four years ago. There was even a vaguely shaggable one in that team I recall, though most of them looked Colin Hendrie with man boobs.

The Swiss miss - she was gorgeous. I still have a photo of her somewhere from four years ago. :tosser:

I wonder, will the favourite Ahonen at any point in proceedings be described as "the flying Finn"? Or is David Vine not commentating anymore?

Anyone pluck this fella out at 33-1? The man was, ow you zay, absolutely brilliant. What a run.

I even enjoyed watching the snowboarding antics in the halfpipe, daft names for their jumps and twists notwithstanding - McTwists, alley-oops, etc. How they don't bash their already-limited braincells to pieces on the ice is beyond me. Ditto the luge.

I had my money on the Hermanator and Strobl. I found it a bit dissapointing, the crowds were poor at the start and there wasn't a single cowbell to be heard let alone the HUP HUP HUP HUP HUP HUP HUP as they come down the slopes. The most exciting bit was when the last decent runner , no 30 came in and blew the field apart.

I switched over to watch the luge yesterday just in time to see the British bloke promptly tip over on the 2nd corner and travel about 300 yards on his arse, before eventually coming to a stop. He clambered back on his sled and meekly pushed himself round the remainder of the course, trundling over the finish line about a minute behind everyone elses time.

I sighed and turned back to the Simpsons.

Garth, they don't all race together at the same time like in horseracing. :) :lolol:

Just as I was musing during the luge that it's a shame they've never built a bobsleigh run here, the commentator mentioned that the one in Italy had cost 70 million Euros to construct - amazingly, there are only 13 top-level bobsleigh runs in the world: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bobsleigh.

Mind you, at £50 million, you could have built 15 bobsleigh runs for the cost of the Millennium Dome.
