The Seagulls Ska version of Sussex By the Sea: yay or nay?

Seagulls Ska version of GOSBTS: should we scrap it after this season?

  • Yes: it's a horrific mutilation of a great song. It should never tarnish the sacred turf of Falmer

You sound more and more like HB&B every day.

What's this about Palookaville? Anyhoo, as for people singing it fast because of this version, that is of course total BOLLOCKS. It was sung fast well before that.

As for me, I think it's dire - so we should keep it.

You are obsessed with me. Obsessed!

Let it go. I am not coming on your bloody radio thing.

And wouldn't be like a Foreman / Ali showdown as you suggest.

It would be more Hinge and Bracket meet Steve McQueen. And I would definitely be the one on the bike.

I love the ska version and it was a great part of our campaign for Falmer.

But, Let's have a slow, well sung version once we get to our new home, at the start of both halves and as we leave. Please.

I'm completely indifferent to it, so my vote is seemingly worthless.

Oh well.

Indeed. I seem to remember a discussion in the studio, when it was recorded, to the effect that the pace would match the speed at which it was already being sung by Albion fans.

Palookaville came out in October 2004. Tom Hark / GOSBTS / Roll Up For The Donkey Derby was released in January 2005. The recordings were in the November.

Close - but no cigar.

As for fans singing GOSBTS at break-neck speed, it's been like that for YEARS - and not just the six since Seagulls Ska came out. There is no way Attila's version was influential enough to alter people's perception of how it was going to be sung.

Don't like it.

And as for those saying, "The kids like it" - just speak for your own kids please.

But I believe the first "airing" of it was at the Palookaville game. Im sure a drunken XIV eye played it to me over the phone that day. If the recordings were in November then fair enough.

Whether it is at fault for breakneck speed or not, it still must be binned and hopefully we will get a new PA.

Love ska in general, but this is stretching it a bit.

Still it is better than the reworked version they use to play pre-match at the Goldstone. That was dreary and I didn't even realise it was a variation on GOSBTS
