I rememember The 1d programme at Spurs which was 1 piece of foolscap paper, bitter 1/6 a pint, haddock and chips 1/10. The only drawback is that I was earning £8 10s a week before tax and NI, and my Mum took £2 10s a week housekeeping.

Chips in the local chippy in Clifton Rd after playing football up Victoria Park in Worthiong were 3d and a bottle of Pepsi was 6d. I sold Mild at the Trades and Labour Club in Worthing at 1s 3d (6p) pint. The biggest rip off was going decimal as when it happened I was selling bots of Guinness at 1s 10d but when that was converted on D Day morning my area manager made it 12p (2s 5d) and that happened to many products especially in the food take away and eating in businesses.

Older posters may well remember pre decimal a tea was 5d and a cheese roll about 7d total 1 shilling or 5p but on the change over the tea became 5p and the chesse roll 7p equal to 12p or in old money 2s 5d in reality doubling the price.
