The Official Event Nightclub Thread

German Roy is a legend, he's a security guard at Mothercare during the day. Haven't seen him in there on a Tuesday for ages though.

Does anyone know the other Roy, the bloke who must be about 108 with frizzy white hair who dances on his own for a bit then fucks off by 12 :lolol:

Even when I was young enough to appreciate it, I thought it was crap. Mainstream dance music, underage drinkers, tarts etc.

Nope, not for me. Don't think it has changed.

My mum used to go there when it was The Top Rank.

Whilst we are on the subject of the Event's previous incarnation The Top Rank, it used to stage a lot of gigs (I saw the Shamen there in '92 when it had just become the event).

Some of the Top Rank gigs included:

Simple Minds (before they were famous)
The Clash
Genesis
Public Image Ltd

Among the less memorable gigs:

Boney M!

Up and Coming Sunny Portslade
A loathsome dogshit hovel of a commercial super club 100% inhabited by Trevs.

Overpriced weak beer, terrible music and the enjoyable prospect of getting your head kicked in on the way home the last time I was there in about 1991. Mind you they used to have some good gigs mid week (Primal Scream, Flowered Up) and the brief experiments with Friday night raves were 'sorted'....

Not been there since I got thrown out about three years ago. Quite a blessing I suppose.
