But we do have the fact that we are BOOM TING in the one day set up, which can only encourage younger players who wish to break into the ODI set up (which can be a way in to the test side?).

That's clutching at straws a little though. Div 2 cricket is RUBBISH.

If the weather wasnt bad enough, sad news filtered through in todays papers that the legend of the game is hanging up his boots at just 28 years of age.

With an ever growing army of fans at the club, and especially this board, he caused hours of entertainment throughout the last few seasons he was with the club.

He has taken up a coaching role in the bid for promotion. He gave us memories that we will never forget, and because of pure genius the HOPPO Sweepstake was born. With a first class avergae of a massive 26.30 including one century and a career best 3/19.....

Carl Daniel Hopkinson, take a bow

It is indeed a very sad day for all supporters of Sussex cricket. I am pleased for Carl though that he has decided to quit before his powers wane. Never can the famous saying have been more true that, although someone might have at first sight a fairly crap batting average commensurate with a player who was never good enough, they were in fact a willow wielding demigod.

Hoppo will be sorely missed - the likes of Gatting and Hamilton-Brown must not make the mistake of trying to replace him.

Lewry's been released as well, and Tom Smith's gone to Middlesex

If Hoppo stays registered we can use him as a specialist 12th man, in the Gary Pratt mould.
