last date was a month before I was born? Wow. Love them though maybe slight exaggeration to say best of a generation!

Just my opinion but they were better than all rest of guitar/post punk bands around! Im 40 so I was just too young to see them live but if u listen to live cd's they were something special

You can't have a defining Jam song sorry, they were all built (not written) impeccably. Although the band were the first since the Beatles to have three no.1's straight in, I don't feel they get the punditry they deserve. By the way, word has it Foxton has been working with Weller lately... you never know!

the jam last gig is obviously legendary but for me the style council gig at the centre (83/84 i cant quite remember) was a real eye opener....weller had gone all red wedge,i remember shouting out socialists are twats or something along those lines and got a good clout for my efforts.saying that weller is a musical legend and i read not so long ago he felt he made a mistake associating himself with red wedge and the socialist movement....thanks paul!!! i told you that years ago and got twatted for it!

In a pile of football shirts
'Just who is the 5 o'clock hero' is my favourite, though Strange Town and Butterfly Collector come close. and of course, 'Tubestation' cannot be rules out.

It has to be "Hello, Hooray, an extremist scrape with the Eton Rifles" for me. Well either that or the bop-tastic 'Town Called Malice'.

Marvelous Band.
