I appreciate this is a very political topic, but this whole thing about the gender pay gap in cricket does wind me up.
I’m not an enormous fan of the Hundred anyway, but actually do watch some women’s cricket. But to suggest there should be equal pay because the products are marketed equally totally ignores the fact that the women’s game is just not that well supported and at many levels they almost have to give the tickets away. I just don’t see how you can justify going for equal pay when it’s clear that the women’s game is not remotely as popular as the men’s. It can only be justified if it’s meant to be effectively a donation and/or for non-economic reasons.
I support trying to build the women’s game up, but equal pay should be the result of equal (or similar) popularity for the product being offered and it’s way off that at the moment (not just in cricket).
