Australia seem to be doing OK with just one spinner

They can play one spinner with their seam attack. With ours I think we have to contain sides as we just don't have the seam attack to take wickets. Note how many wickets the Aussie seamers have taken this series compared to ours.

Hmmm....so the Australian team is adopting the wrong strategy is it? Remind me again who the number one team in the ODI rankings is. And which team has won the past three World Cups...

If you're blessed with a clutch of decent spinners - like India or Sri Lanka - you play them. If you're not, then play your seamers. I see little point in playing someone because he's a spinner. For example, I don't see any reason for Eng to play Panesar in ODIs but I do see the point in playing Rashid as he can bat (and doesn't field like a carthorse).

Another argument is not so much spinners but bowlers who take the pace off the ball, the reason why sussex have the best limited over bowling figures in the country whether it is 2020 4040 or 5050. The faster you bowl a ball the quicker it gets to the boundry.

Shah should be dropped for Trott now. Shah never really seems to get any runs and added to that anyone batting with him seems to think they are on the brink of being run out!

Prior should also open with Strauss, watching Prior he loves the ball coming onto the bat, like Alec Stewart, which you will get in the first 10/15 overs, this will open the middle order for a more specialist middle order one day batsman, like Bell maybe (and obviously Peterson when fit again)

Rather worryingly Shah is Englands top one day scorer over the last 2 years.

I Have say though I think the main differences between the two sides at the moment is England's inability to A) Build on starts B) Take 10 wickets, which I don't remember them doing in the entire series, we don't have enough genuine wicket takers in our team, bowlers seem to being chosen more on there ability to bat and bowl rather than just with the ball.

There seems no desire to do anything about it. The current batting order doesn't work - so why not try opening with Swann - he's done it for Notts. OK, he'll probably get out cheaply - but so will the openers. But it could come off and we get off to a quick start. Just try to do something avaguely inventive.
Also, why not look at who are good one day players - although unfortunately most of them seem to be Kolpak players (e.g. Alphonso Thomas). Another suggestion that won't go down too well on this board - but James Foster is a great one day player.
Sidebottom looks way out of his depth and loses about 20 runs in the field. In fact the whole fielding is lethargic - how often do we hit the stumps?

I always feel more comfortable when our line-up has 2 quick, nipply new ball bowlers. The last thing an opener wants to face knowing he has to score quickly is a paceman who can put the ball in the right place. Anderson's OK but we need someone else.

As for Luke Wright, the jury's still out. He looks dangerous when playing for Sussex, but that's due in part to a clearly-defined role and clear team orders. With England he might bowl, he might not, he might go in at No.3, or maybe No.7. No wonder we've only seem him perform in fits and starts for England.

Compared to the Ashes (which we WON) this ODI series is about as important as a kickabout in a park.

Thus, I have no opinion.
