Coronavirus good news
@Coronavirusgoo1
Good news:

- 1 dose of either Pfizer or Oxford reduces chances of infection by 65%

- 2 doses of Pfizer reduces chances of infection by 90%

- Infections after vaccination much more likely to be asymptomatic

- Vaccines work as well regardless of age.

✓ B.1.351 (S Africa)
✓ P.1 (Brazil)
✓ B.1.1.7 (UK)
✓ B.1.526 (NY)
✓ B.1.429 (CA)

Good to see case numbers in check, when lockdown has in many respects been eased for a while now.

The second vax programme is flying. The media outlets and always unhappy scientists predicting a devastating shortfall in April have gone rather quiet on the subject!

They are still piping up with 3rd wave warnings and indian variants to stay relevant but its done.

Good news continues to flow.

Fantastic isn't it ? I don't think it was so much a shortfall, it was more a 'flattening', so the rapid progress with first jabs came to a halt as the available juice had to go to second jabs to keep within the 12 week window. Plan seems to be to ramp up first jabs again as soon as more becomes available but continue with the current rate of second jabs (will have to otherwise the 12 week window gets missed). The incredible thing is - thanks to the vaccine strategy - the key hospitalisation and death numbers keep falling anyway because the vast majority of those likely to end up seriously ill are already protected (and the first jab is proving even more effective than any trial predicted)
