Now that this is on Sunday i get to see it. Last Sunday was a 2nd Div match with West ham beating newcastle 5-0, pretty impressive. hammers had Devonshire, Brooking, Bonds, Lampard, Parkes...

Then they showed Cardiff v Stoke, another promotion chasing pair.

But then, the HIGHLIGHT of the show, they showed the league table and there, sitting above them all and one place above palace was......

....BRIGHTON!

Had almost forgotten we used to be good!

Was that 78/79 then?

Or the year before when we just missed out?

bloody hell! I thought you were going to say they were going to show some vintage coverage of Brighton during the 1978/79 season.

(just creamed my pants)

iT was 78/79 and we went up with Stoke and some other team whe went on to become team of the 80's....for a few months anyway.

There's hardly any decent coverage of those times.

I always try to watch the Big Match Revisited, it is quality.

The atmosphere looks quality, but I watched the last one (West Ham vs. Newcastle) and the football was utterly abysmal. League Two standard if that. The first touch of some of the players actually had me laughing.

Admittedly pitches were much worse back then, the Upton Park pitch was an absolute state. And so you can see why power, pace and precision were more valued than technique and skill in those days.

Also worth noting I saw a guy "lamp" one in for West Ham from around 25 yards, thought blimey that had echoes of Lampard and lo and behold it was Frank Lampard Snr, looking identical to Frank Jnr but for the horrific 70's hair'n'beard combo.

Seeing as they are covering 1978/79, fingers crossed for them having the Orient 3-3 game in a week or two......

That was a cracking game, one of the most exiting games I've ever seen. Didn't realise it was televised.

You can view lots of other retro albion games on www.seagulls.tv

Speaking of retro clips, here is Peter Ward scoring against Sheffield United in 1977 from a different angle from how you will find on the '100 Great Goals' DVD. Just found it from a news report on the BBC website

I really hope they show that 3-3, would love to see it again. I've still got two programmes signed by Teddy Maybank and Mark Lawrensen from that game, both were out injured at the time.

That Orient game was the 1st league game I had to miss in years, home or away. One of my brothers was getting married so it was a case of sneaking away to catch bits on the radio.

Suppose it was worth it as they are still married and their boys have grown up Albion fans and NSC members too!
