[Cricket] The Ashes - England v Australia - 4th Test, Old Trafford, July 19-23, 2023

Cheshire Cat

The most curious thing..
England to win? You've seen the weather forecast, right?

The market currently has the result probability as:

Draw - 4/7 (65%)
England - 9/5 (35%)
Oz - 560/1 (~0%)
Definitely worth a couple of quid on Oz at those odds.

Not sure if that's treason or stupid

I'm going with the optimistic Sunday forecast! If there's a couple of hours play, England should win.

Not really. It was in the bag from a sporting perspective. There's always the possibility of a weather event/natural disaster disrupting the most likely outcome😊
OK.

I think most of us commenting on the day's play were cognisant that the forecast weather meant that it was not "in the bag" and very much "in doubt" unless England took 10 wickets today.

Fingers crossed the weather gods are kind and allow enough play for England to secure a deserved victory.

But, in other news, Albion will be Premier League champions this season. Please note there's always the possibility of other sides winning enough games to disrupt this outcome.

I can't see any play on either day as it stands. The weather is set to turn beautiful again... on Monday

As for the Accuweather forecast, it's their usual trollocks.

Skippys are going to get away with it and keep the urn. I know we've done it before (Oval 2005 when the Aussies had to change their game plan) but I'm bitter. Very bitter.

Looking at the BBC Sunday weather forecast it looks like a blue blob of rain will stay much of the day around the Manchester area. However, not far south or north its relatively dry.
Maybe that weather front may move in either direction at that time.

This time 50 years ago, head in line, Peter Willey style stance, grip on the bat suggests that Bazball pre-dates 2022....

Saturday:

Wet and gloomy for much of Saturday with outbreaks of rain throughout, heavy at times. A fresh breeze developing. Feeling cool under persistent rain, though humidity building into the evening. Maximum temperature 18 °C.

Outlook for Sunday to Tuesday:

Staying wet on Sunday with further heavy rain at times. Brighter on Monday with sunny spells and scattered locally heavy showers. Mostly dry on Tuesday with sunny spells. Rather cool.

Looks like the Skippys have got away with it.

The radar forecast picked out yesterday's showers on time.
Today there's a glimmer of some play at 2pm for an hour.
Tomorrow there are lots of gaps in the cloud mass and looksha good 2-3 hours after 3pm.
It's in the bag!
