The P&l alone isn't enough to look at to simply say "we are screwed" or "how much?!" about stuff.

Most entries are accounting entries only based on a policy to, for example, amortise the cost of the players on the books.

Financial strength and relative health are better determined from the balance sheet and cash flow statement, albeit the former is only a snap shot at the year end date.

Just from those P&L numbers, other football clubs in our league have much bigger and real financial issues to contend with!

Will be interesting to see what difference The Amex shirt deal makes to the sponsorship column next time out.y

Most telling stat is the £5.7m from TV in Championship with addition of televised cup games. Wolves got £39m for coming bottom of the Premier League. Therein is the reason clubs will spend huge wages to turnover ratios to gamble at going up.

Glad we don't though.

Yep we had a lot of televised cup games. Would be interesting to know what the figure would have been if we hadn't had two good runs last season.

The catering profits of £1.3M seem a little disappointing. Hopefully this will improve with the new contract.

What a fascinating read (cheers Bozz). :clap2:

I've come to the conclusion that if we flog: Bridders, PIG, Big Leo, WB, Spanish Dave & CMS - we'll be turning a cheeky profit. Why's Uncle Tone draggin' his feet? I'm off to send him an urgent email innit.

anyone now doubting the veracity of Gus's comments about the relative budget availabke to him being "bottom half of the Championship"?

Might it now classify as being fair comment rather than whingeing?

Player amortisarion is an interesting one; I never considered that this would could as an intangible asset. Section 11 of the accounts notes that this only accounts for the cost of transfer and player registration and not current market value, so I imagine the depreciation is pro-rata the length remaining on the player's contract and their initial contract . For example: the asset of Will Buckley will have depreciated by 1/3rd of his initial 1m transfer fee, whereas in reality his value has gone up by 2m.

Another fairly straighforward thing to see is that the ticketing income of £7.8m is based on crowds of 20K, so this can be expected to increase by £2m along with associated match day sales etc.

I would love to have a detailed trawl through, but I'm about to go on holiday so I can't. From what I can read on the comments and info above, the 67% wages to income looks very important. The sources of income also look solid, so we need some more data on the "other expenses" - how much is recurring and how much is one-off. Presumably there is a fair bit of depreciation coming through, or to come through. Financing also seems sound, but, as we already know, is dependant on TB's continuing support.

Because when your Mum & Dad lend you £2000 for your first car and say 'pay it back when you've got it."

That.

That's what I like to call a rhetorical loan. Tony Bloom is all our Dads.

There isn't any depreciation on the stadium yet as it is still considered to be an ongoing construction for financial year 2011/2012.

That's fascinating reading. But yes, we perhaps could do with more posts of statistical analysis in order for those amongst us who are not accountants to make real sense of things.

With 200% rise in turnover and 30% rise in profits its all good. If anyone walked in to a bank and said my business is growing by that amouth with that amount of profit rise they would fall over themselves to sign them up

Can someone explain what is the key data is and how we compare against our rivals?

I like the players wages % thing, would love to see a league table of that and would be very interested to see where we sit.
